Argon gas is non-toxic, colorless, odorless, and is usually used in a tungsten inert gas (TIG) welder as a shield from oxidation for electrodes and the welds. Argon welding requires more precision and knowledge than metal inert gas (MIG) welding, since it’s more commonly used in thinner gauge materials, but the quality of end product is better, even though it takes longer to get there. Unsurprisingly, TIG welding creates the cleanest welds.
Tungsten inert gas is used for a lot of different types of metals, including stainless steel, non-ferrous metals like aluminum, magnesium and copper alloys.
